Rachel Leatherbury
Director, LB Tutoring Academy
Throughout decades spent in education, I discovered a passion for teaching and helping students develop the necessary skills to be successful in life. I find every experience to be a wonderful new challenge. My greatest joy is ensuring my students are successful and prepared for their college experience.
I grew up on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. My desire to work with children began in high school, a time when I spent countless hours volunteering with children with autism and down syndrome. One of my first jobs was as a counselor for Rolling Hills Country Day Camp, where I soon managed the program and over 80 counselors.
I studied business at Indiana University and earned a BA in Anthropology at UCLA where I explored the differences of global cultures. While attending UCLA, I returned to run the summer programs and after school program at Rolling Hills Country Day School. Following, I spent a year substitute teaching in four south bay school districts.
Next, I spent five years as the Upper School Program Director of Renaissance School for Arts and Sciences where I planned curriculum and helped build the accredited high school.
It has been my dream to have my own business where I utilize my expertise working with individuals of all ages to promote enthusiasm toward life long learning through differentiated instruction. The unique learning environment that has been created at LB Tutoring Academy promotes stress free learning in a quiet yet fun space. Additional learning opportunities available include career development and distance learning.
My areas of expertise to name a few include: leadership, teaching, curriculum design, nonprofits, special education, Microsoft Office, 21st century skills, IEPs, 504 Plans, grant writing, social skill development, career devlopment, academic advising, academic administration, college education, K-12 education, adult education, computer instruction...
When Rachel is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her son, daughter, and loving animals. Otherwise, you will likely find her cheering on the UCLA Bruins at football games, camping, wakeboarding, skiing, paddling, and other outdoor activities. Go Bruins!
